Peopleviz

Peopleviz is a research project on casual users’ engagement with online information visualizations. As a response to the data-saturation of our occidental societies, information visualization (Infovis) is spreading on the Web. Lead by design, research, journalistic and hobbyist communities, this expansion has brought forth new requirements, like the need for new design approaches to those proposed by the Infovis community. The audience is changing from experts to casual internet users, and the use-contexts are shifting. In this environment, information visualizations have to compete with other/more traditional media,e.g., text and video, which makes it crucial to find ways to harness people’s attention and ensure their comprehension of visually presented information. An engaging experience must be provided, and help should be given to untrained users so that they can take advantage of what state-of-the-art visualizations have to offer, both for analytical purposes and for the fun of interacting with information.
